ABSTRACT

One form of cognitive behavioural therapy that is specifically designed to deal with this kind of problem in a criminal setting is anger management, which attempts to deal with the negative thoughts and behaviour that arise from faulty cognition and then replace that with more appropriate thoughts and behaviour. According to the legal guidance given by the Crown Prosecution Service, restorative justice should have the following aims: Victim satisfaction – to reduce the fear felt by the victim and to create a feeling that they have been paid back for the harm done to them, Engagement with the perpetrator – to make the offender aware of the damage they have done and to agree to do something to make up for it and Creation of community capital – so that the public can see that something constructive is being done and become more confident in the system of justice.
