ABSTRACT
Climate-related hazards are increasing in coastal regions, and geographical variations notwithstanding, most societies are faced with the need to adapt by trying to minimize negative impacts while seizing on the few positive effects. Adaptation strategies aim at reducing vulnerability as a way to manage climatic uncertainty. In this chapter, we provide soil and water management strategies with the potential to cope with climate change and hence to reduce further degradation of soil and water resources. Furthermore, recommendations on specific soil and water use planning strategies to address climate change are provided that can be incorporated into national and international development plans. Methodologies are presented to implement these recommendations for adaptation to global climate change.
