ABSTRACT

A compact and cost-effective approach to field production is discussed in detail, in particular a survey of certain attitudes and traits that are helpful when planning location productions. This chapter also contains information concerning technical and ergonomic characteristics of camera, audio, lighting, and support equipment as they exist within the contemporary media environment. Readers are also introduced to a granular investigation of a three-point lighting scheme, as well as three basic archetypes associated with “dramatic” lighting. Additionally, there is a brief overview of skills and techniques associated with studio production, along with a breakdown of basic studio and switcher organization. Knowledge of studio production is characterized as a career-enhancing skillset for the aspiring media producer.
