ABSTRACT

The planning and design of IP and file-based infrastructure is as much about bricks and mortar as it is about technology. As there are many facets in the technology architecture and infrastructure, there are also significant changes in the planning and design of the physical facility. While workflow dictates some of the room adjacency requirements. Other concerns i.e. proximity due to signal considerations are not as critical. Room design has changed, flat panels are lighter and use less power. Control rooms have work surfaces and not the main frames of production devices. Heat and power loads are different for computer-based systems. Distributed network requires locations for switches that also need power and environment conditioning. Computer equipment doesn’t handle power outages well. UPS and time to shutdown are design considerations.
