ABSTRACT

Since the first edition, one of the most significant changes in the transition to IP Broadcast was the creation, ratification, approval and adoption of a completely new set of standards and specifications for the transport of professional media over an Ethernet network. The Joint Task Force on Networked Media (JT-NM) is a collaborative organization formed to address the industry’s demand for a true set of standards for broadcast IP. This produced the JT-NM Reference Architecture, which consists of the SMPTE ST2110 suite of standards for Professional Media over Managed IP Networks for the in-facility media transport and the NMOS set of specifications for device and network management. As with all changes in the industry there are new terms and acronyms. This chapter discusses the standards, specifications and new terms.
