ABSTRACT

Planning, design, implementation and maintenance all fall under engineering. The IP infrastructure has little if any resemblance to and SDI infrastructure. It’s all about network, servers, storage and applications. Digital glue is now middleware and APIs. This has been the most significant change since the first edition of this book. The introduction and adoption of new standards for live and studio production using all IP technologies has made an impact on the entire infrastructure, design and engineering requirements plus new management, control, monitoring, test and measurement. Cloud, @Home and AI all impact engineering.

The engineer has to ensure that all systems perform as they’re supposed to, all problems are resolved and everything is up and running. There is a significant change in documentation from planning and design to support and maintenance. There are new and expanded relationships with the vendor and their tech support. The engineer has expanded responsibilities needing to address business continuity, security and disaster recovery.
