ABSTRACT
India’s multi-dimensional relations with Southeast Asian states have expanded in recent years, boosted by renewed attention under the Modi government and an apparent bid by ASEAN states to balance their relationship with an increasingly assertive China. This chapter explores India’s engagements with Southeast Asian states with a focus on ongoing maritime security ties. It also examines extant Chinese and American influence in the region to assess future prospects for India’s strategic influence in the region.
