ABSTRACT

Individuals participate in various ways in the economy and business world. A large number of people participate in business contexts by being an employee. This is a rather general and broad role that encompasses all kind of employees and various contexts. However, even the general role of being an employee comes with some specific ethical aspects. An employee works for a company or organization. The employee rents out her skills and abilities in order to make a living. Rights are fundamental claims that are grounded in ethical reasons and demand general recognition. Rights protect and guarantee crucial interests and the wellbeing of persons. Employees have moral rights, but also moral responsibilities toward their employer and their coworkers. Employees can ask to be treated with respect and fairness, but one can likewise ask employees to be respectful and fair to their employer and coworkers. In the following, a couple of relevant moral responsibilities of employees are discussed.
