ABSTRACT

One way to draw attention to progress is to display children’s first attempt next to their finished art so that observers can see improvements. Taking photographs as children build models and then using them to tell the story of progress can be an effective way to draw attention to the process of learning. Rather than displaying just the finished artwork, show the children’s progress from starting point to finished piece with any improvements in between. Diaries, thinking journals and learning folders are popular ways for tracking and sharing children’s progress in learning. Inviting children to take part in parents’ meetings gives them the opportunity to talk about their own progress in learning. Create Progress Arrows that show where children are in terms of numeracy skills. Host learning conferences in which children show their parents the progress they have been making.
