ABSTRACT

The overarching principle the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of ‘Leaving no one behind’. Yet initiatives which aim to promote social inclusion often have little chance of realising this ambitious goal and sustaining it into the future. This chapter outlines five broad approaches which contribute to social inclusion being sustained. These are: policies which promote sustained social inclusion; sustaining programmes which promote social inclusion; sustaining organisations which promote social inclusion; initiatives which lead to social inclusion as a sustained outcome; and sustainable social development.
