ABSTRACT
The following lists of journals, society proceedings, transactions, etc., indexed in the text are arranged according to their national, regional, or state and local coverage. Selected for their inclusion of biographical material -- many illustrious journals, such as the American Journal of the Medical Sciences, gave no space or virtually none to biography -- these journals and society publications were chiefly indexed in Philadelphia libraries, especially the College of Physicians and the University of Pennsylvania, and to some extent the Pennsylvania Hospital. Others were seen at the National Library of Medicine; at the Kansas Historical Society, Topeka; the University of Kansas Spencer Research Library at Lawrence; and the Library of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Not every volume of every journal was found. Many other journals might have been included, and should have been; the compiler must acknowledge limitations of time, funds, energy and patience.
