ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book offers some suggestions for marketing, policies, programming, and move-in and examines various spaces where conflict may emerge, including how to train staff, address bullying, and navigate family dynamics. It summarizes suggestions and key take-aways and considers resources for further reading and research. The book explores some psychosocial and health considerations for residents, including sexuality, gender identity, dementia, and human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) marketing and outreach techniques, or ways to incorporate LGBT inclusion into strategic planning, are not specific to senior living and can be used across many different businesses. Many of the suggestions for LGBT inclusion in senior living can be translated into other services. For example, LGBT-inclusive intake interviewing is a skill that can be used across many services.
