ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses what it means to come out, the fact that LGBT people come out many times over their lives, and the ways in which LGBT people listen and look for cues that they will be safe and treated with respect. It emphasizes the importance of not making assumptions when meeting a new resident or potential resident and in everyday conversation. Finally, I look at how to make publicity materials and programming more attractive to current and future LGBT residents.
