ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate Malaysian university students’ MOOC readiness. The study used a mixed-mode approach to achieve the objective of the study. In the quantitative phase of the study, a questionnaire was used. The study involved 4,665 students (undergraduate and postgraduate) of both genders. For the qualitative phase, the participants of the study have answered some open-ended questions. To analyze the quantitative data, descriptive statistics (frequency and mean) were used, while the qualitative data was analyzed through thematic analysis and description. The quantitative study has identified seven factors associated with Malaysian students’ readiness in MOOCs, namely, Technology Access (4.09), Online Skills (4.08), Motivation (3.72), Online Audio/Video (3.81), Internet Discussions (3.93), Importance to Success (4.08), and MOOCs Awareness (35%). The qualitative study explored blended learning proportion in MOOCs and MOOCs format. The findings show that overall the students have readiness to be engaged in MOOCs. The study findings have implications for instructors, administrators, and stakeholders to accelerate and facilitate MOOC implementation in the country.
