ABSTRACT

According to Psychology, one of our fundamental needs as human beings is that sense of social connection. In essence, connections help to build personal and professional relationships that lead to a deeper awareness of our true selves. By connecting with those beyond one’s immediate circle of influence, we: feed our emotional intelligence desires; gain knowledge from others through discovery; and share our own learning and feel a sense of contributing to the greater good. The Institute of Health and Human Potential defines emotional intelligence as awareness that emotions can drive our behavior which has both a positive and negative impact on people. Students learn better in safe and supportive learning environments, and the same can be said for adults.
