ABSTRACT

This chapter brings the book to a close by running over the main arguments, and answering the questions put forward at the beginning. The ‘prevailing notion of disease’, gradually uncovered in the book, is discussed, and the penury of the definition of disease debate highlighted through use of fibromyalgia as a case study. Finally, the usefulness of illness as an area of philosophical interest is reasserted and a call is made for more varied research to be completed on the topic.
