ABSTRACT

Three to four decades after it had been developed at Boston Children's Museum, the Museum of London adapted the team approach as a route to prioritising audiences and raising the profile of learning and the influence of the Learning Team within the institution. The resulting Galleries of Modern London, divided into Expanding City, People's City and World City, cover the history of London from the Great Fire in 1666 to the present day. For the Galleries of Modern London this would be general interest adults and families but with particular emphasis placed on people from diverse communities, people from lower socio-economic groups and school children. As Gail Symington lead designer on the Galleries of Modern London writes: The equal balance and respect given in relation to content, audience focuses and design had a huge impact on the overall process and end product in the galleries themselves.
