ABSTRACT

The English word “retreat” has more or less the same meaning as the Sanskrit “Antar Yoja.” “Antar” means inner; “Yoga” you know – “getting it together” in own terms. On the first evening of the retreat there is a light fruit supper. Then everyone gathers in the satsang hall. Swamiji comes and sits at the front of the hall so that everyone can see him. He gives a short orientation talk, telling the retreatants about the basic purpose of Yoga and of coming to a retreat, as well as some particular points about what they would be experiencing in the coming days. It is a beautifully concise talk, bringing home the theme of living a yogic life. The main purpose of Yoga is to keep control over the mind; to have a good control over the modifications of the mind, not to allow the mind to go as it wants but to control it to go as you want.
