ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to present and analyze the various co-existing stories of the death of an immigrant priest that took place in the early days of the year 1900, in a region of Italian settlement in southern Brazil. With no mystery-solving intentions in mind, I seek to reconstruct the cultural universe of the settlers and the explanations they provided for the “tragic” and “sudden” death of the priest Antonio Sorio.
