ABSTRACT
Theories advancing arguments for a relationship between secularisation and the new religious movements have been of two basic types:
Where the new religions are viewed as primarily a manifestation of secularisation with little prospect of halting its course.
Where the new religions are viewed as a response to secularisation which seeks to - and may in one or another instance - reverse the trend.
