ABSTRACT

The contributors are women and men of different ages, nations, ethnicities and genders, producing media in radically different fields, some for studios, some for film funds, others for Netflix or YouTube. But though they share little in common and sometimes even disagree about the role of a producer, in each burns a bright spark of existential possibility, a passion to build something from nothing, that’s married to a hard-earned skillset letting them actually do it. Leonardo Da Vinci, whose notebooks teem with original ideas like parachutes, submarines and elevators, actually realized only a small number of his amazing conceptions: this paradigm-breaking genius was not a good producer and badly needed to partner with one. Eastman was a path-breaking producer in the modern sense.
