ABSTRACT

Virtual reality is by its very nature a visual oriented experience. Many students are thought to be visual learners. A study by The University of Texas at Dallas in the US shows that virtual reality training programmes produce positive results: “The virtual reality training platform creates a safe place for participants to practice social situations without the intense fear of consequence”. The use of virtual reality to create a controlled and safe environment that is closely representative of real life has proven beneficial to students in care. There are many countries all over the world that benefitting from virtual classrooms. In Australia the School of the Air links teachers in town with children in their homes wherever they are. Alice springs has the world’s largest classroom running since 1951 with 120 students spread over 1 million square kilometres of central Australia.
