ABSTRACT

Klaus Schwab describes we are living in as the fourth industrial revolution which, according to the world economic forum, will be a “fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres”. Parents of children have little if any experience of the online world that their children navigate so easily. The online world crept into lives so stealthily that many parents are ignorant of its power and attraction. Internet safety, it would appear, is a shared responsibility between the internet industry and the public but parents are the first line of defence when protecting their children against internet dangers. They are often overwhelmed when it comes to internet safety issues. Virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Artificial intelligence provides masses of information on smartphones. Some schools allow the use of smartphones because of their usefulness.
