Engaging patients continues to be a key initiative for healthcare providers to reform health care. Organizations throughout the world are aggressively chasing efforts to encourage patients to be more involved in their care. A measurable behavior reflecting the patient’s sustained activation and expansion of their empowerment as a patient. The first challenge healthcare organizations face with their website is to activate patients. There are several approaches organizations can use to guide the digital health activation of their targeted audience(s). Some of the most common approaches are: emphasize patient ownership, identify small steps and incentives. Patient engagement is widely recognized as being critical to many positive outcomes for patients and society. Healthcare provider organizations are to be commended for leveraging their organization’s resources, including their website, for patient engagement purposes. While much of a provider’s website functions to empower patients, the utility of digital health tools is useless unless patients use the resources offered to them.
