ABSTRACT

The Business Improvement Team at the University of Aberdeen offer a lean training portfolio to help staff understand and apply lean methodology to improve their work areas and contribute to the university achieving its strategic aims. The University of Aberdeen launched an integrated applications programme in early 2013 and an individual Business Improvement (BI) specialist was allocated to individual module development to support process mapping, requirements gathering etc for the modules. Attendees are encouraged to bring lunch along, with refreshments provided, and informality is key to gain interest. The BI team has undertaken an additional eleven projects as a result of lean training since autumn 2015. The University of Aberdeen “lean training to lean projects” approach developed as a result of organisational change within the university and also the BI team believing that it should be an activity that is part of the overall lean programme it provides to the institution.
