ABSTRACT

Lean focuses on using tools or step by step methods to remove waste from work processes so information and/or product flow more efficiently throughout a process. In Lean, all work steps are sorted into two basic categories, value-added and non-value-added. The team’s responsibility would be to ensure efforts align with college goals. Their charge could include helping plan and drive ongoing activities, monitor outcomes, communicate to the masses and look for ways to continually improve and expand the institution’s Lean effort. Consider holding info sessions, department meetings, an all staff meeting, forums, or training sessions to get everyone up to speed and allow them time to ask questions. In addition to trainings, add into the calendar specific communication dates, status updates and report-outs. Midterm grades grant a warning, and an opportunity, to adjust behavior before the end of the term.
