ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how the application of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) can influence Lean Culture. It focuses on the results of an analysis of the literature on this particular subject, the author’s own research conducted within the frame of the “Miniature 1” project financed from an National Science Centre, Poland grant as well as her experience gained during the execution of various Lean projects. Since ancient times the mission of the university has been evolving from the creation of pure knowledge to the domination of social, political, and economic functions. Value is created in a value stream which comprises all actions necessary in the process of providing a service from its designing to its delivery to the customer. Measuring inventories in the process of education can be conducted on the basis of tangible measures and on the basis of the number of customers waiting for the performance of a particular action.
