ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the isogeometric approach explained in Chapter 6 combined with the sandwich condensation introduced in Chapter 7 are used to solve a thick Mindlin flat square plate, considering the shear deformation effect, and static and free vibration problems. The stiffness, mass matrices, and loading vector are numerically integrated following the concept given in Chapter 2. The plate element is divided into four square identic sub-elements. The standard procedure for assembling the technique in the finite element method can be employed to determine the maximum deflection at the central location of the plate example. The numerical example of the flat square plate problem is accompanied by its relevant and complete MATLAB® codes.
