ABSTRACT

Similar to Chapter 8, the isogeometric approach explained in Chapter 6 combined with the sandwich condensation introduced in Chapter 7 are used to solve a thick Mindlin free-form plate, considering the shear deformation effect, and static and free vibration problems. The stiffness, mass matrices, and loading vector are numerically integrated following the concept given in Chapter 2. One plate element is considered in the analysis. The condensation is performed made to form a standard four-node 12-DOF plate element. Three of the nodes are constrained from deflection and rotations, whereas the free node is subjected to concentrated transverse load and bending moments in two directions of axes. The deflection and rotations at the free node are solved. The numerical example of the free-form thick plate problem is accompanied by its relevant and complete MATLAB® codes.
