Introduction

The primary objective of this study is to establish the text of William Davenant’s The Platonick Lovers that most closely represents the author’s final intent. To that end, copies of all of the editions in which he may have had a hand have been collated, all variants noted, and judgments made as to which alterations are authorial and which merely the result of compositorial or editorial error or intervention.
