ABSTRACT

Albert Einstein was born during the year of Maxwell’s death, on 14 March 1879. His lifetime saw the advent of the telephone, sound and visual recording, radio, television, and travel by car and aeroplane. It also saw, as a direct result of his work, the advent of nuclear power and nuclear bombs. As a German citizen, Einstein was obliged to report for conscription to the military before reaching the age of seventeen. He renounced his citizenship in 1896. He was stateless until he became a Swiss citizen in 1901. Einstein was a leader in establishing the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which opened in 1925, and he served on the Board of Governors from 1925 to 1928. From 1922 to 1932, Einstein was also involved with the International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation of the League of Nations, in Geneva. Throughout his life Einstein published hundreds of books and articles. He published more than 300 scientific papers and 150 non-scientific ones.
