ABSTRACT

Empowerment is only going to occur when one understand and accept that work does not flow from the corner office to the factory floor. Empowerment is only going to occur when one understand and accept that work does not flow from the production line to the customer. The organizational work moves across the supply chain. Part of the curriculum at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is that the teachers encourage the students to express their ideas and thoughts in their writings. By conducting their research for their articles, they became the subject matter experts on the issue that was confronting them. Because they felt that the issue was close to home, they were more engaged in the process because they owned the outcomes. Empowerment will not happen without the engagement and ownership of the organizational processes. Engagement comes from the recognition that our human capital assets have real value to the success of the organization.
