ABSTRACT
Revision of some basic concepts is undertaken in this chapter. Order of operations in mathematical calculations is explained first. This is followed by the process of rounding, and the error that it introduces. Examples are given for rounding answers to specified significant figures and changing the format to the standard form. Laws of indices are also explained with examples to detail the processes involved. An end of chapter exercise is included to reinforce the learning of the basic concepts explained in this chapter.
