ABSTRACT

Wilfred Bion always stood while conducting his seminars; his presentation was rich in biblical metaphors and quotations from the poets. Bion also does his best to see that the emotions connected with the content of a communication are incorporated in that communication. Bion’s roots lay in Imperial Britain and India. Following the battle of Amiens, Bion was granted leave much sooner than he expected: his seniors perhaps concerned both about his being war-exhausted, and his burning anger. Bion’s first daughter, Parthenope, translated at all The Italian Seminars in the summer of 1977 – both Bion’s English into Italian and the questions and comments of the Italian participants into English for Bion. The news of Parthenope’s death was communicated to the bion97 mailing list by Mario Perini.
