ABSTRACT

This chapter helps the reader to understand the purpose of Standard Work and shows the components of Standard Work. It explores the forms that are used to measure and document Standard Work. There are three components of Standard Work: the sequence of operations to be conducted; the time the operations will take; and the required supplies needed for the operation. Sequence of operations is a statement of the activities to be conducted, and the agreed order. This is often important, as if there is lack of clarity on the order of activities, they may be done twice. The description of Standard Work includes the equipment and supplies that are needed for the work, and which therefore defines standard stock. This will include consideration of the number of items that are needed for a procedure.
