ABSTRACT

This poem culls information from recent headlines in the United States regarding immigration from other countries and movements from colonized Latinos (Puerto Ricans). I specifically looked for headlines that used the term “caravan”, when referencing Latinx populations and found information not only on immigrants but also US citizens who were protesting the US government’s ineffective response to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. The resulting poem attempts to demonstrate the importance of family and community within the Latinx population, and how women often die or are jailed in their attempt to keep family together.
