ABSTRACT

115 A 1.5-year-old female Australian Kelpie dog underwent apparently uncomplicated ovariohysterectomy surgery and upon recovery was discharged with a 3-day supply of carprofen (dosed at 1.8 mg/kg twice daily). Approximately 36 hours after discharge, she lost her appetite and showed mild diarrhea; carprofen was discontinued at this time. The following day, she developed polydipsia, polyuria, and vomiting. She presents as an emergency, obtunded and with markedly injected oral mucosae; capillary refill time is approximately 3 seconds. You judge her to be at least 8% dehydrated based on skin turgor.
