ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the way in which the campaign has grown worldwide. The Tirley Garth Seminar which played such an important role in setting the direction for the Jubilee 2000 campaign in March 1993 had a good international spread. The whole Council gave a strong, timely impetus to the Jubilee 2000 campaign just before the start of its final year. From the point of view of making Jubilee 2000 known to professional economists, social scientists and students of international affairs, the Annual Conference in April 1996 of the International Studies Association at San Diego, California was undoubtedly the most important occasion. Once the Jubilee 2000 Office was established as the Secretariat of the Coalition, an International Section staffed by Nick Buxton began to pick up contacts already established and expand them. A number of international gatherings have given opportunities for spreading the ideas of Jubilee 2000 and winning support for them.
