ABSTRACT

Probably throughout the Middle Ages, the Alphabet and the teaching of religion went together. The Alphabet was taught as the entrance to the Latin Language, and was the entrance to the vernacular rather by accident than design. Mr W. H. Allnutt 1 gives an account of an MS. A B C of the 14th century (Hunterian Museum, Glasgow).
