ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, I review the core argument of the book and discuss its empirical and theoretical scope. I point to a broader relevance of the theoretical argument linking political contestation of issues at one level of politics and the representation of interests at the higher level. I argue that the model developed in the book appears to be applicable beyond the study of international organizations. Subsequently, I discuss the policy implications of my arguments regarding the design and performance of global economic governance and the WTO. I argue that a reformed WTO could seek an ambitious position as a lower chamber of a global (economic) parliament.
