ABSTRACT
Mechanical power has been employed in several areas such as farming, household works, transportation and various industrial processes. In the ancient days, animals were largely employed in farming, transportation, etc. Several agricultural works were carried out by human beings also. Household works such as grinding, washing etc. were done by the inmates. Later steam engines were developed followed by the use of fuels such as diesel, petrol etc. This led to larger industrialization as well as new transport systems. With the advent of electricity, most of the mechanical power development is now carried out using electric motors. The motor pumps in the agricultural fields, wet grinders in the kitchen, washing machines and several industrial drives are few examples.
