ABSTRACT
The democratisation of Cape Verde took place against a background of exemplary political alternation with one democratically elected government following another. On Cape Verde, multipartyism and multi-trade unionism go hand in hand and aim to achieve a more egalitarian society. The recent history of the trade union movement might suggest that such exemplary progress is no more than superficial. As we shall see, it is going to be hard work.
