ABSTRACT

The functional agriculture laboratory at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in Suzhou, China can function as the Functional Agriculture Science and Technology Network Network hub. Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research and the USTC Team are jointly studying the standards and the certification for selenium (Se)-enriched agricultural products such as rice, banana, and pineapple in Thailand. In 2008, Qiguo Zhao, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, first developed a new conception of functional agriculture in “Agricultural Science and Technology in China: A Road Map to 2050”. To quickly determine concentrations of Se in human samples and agricultural products, a Fast Selenium Analyzer has been developed by Setek and Yaozhi Co., Ltd. The USTC research laboratory and Setek have developed a series of basic standard substances, including Se fertilizers and Seenriched food materials.
