ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the effect of carbon on the mechanical properties of steels and the classification based on carbon content. Chapter describes the microstructure and properties of low carbon, medium carbon and high carbon steels. It also gives the engineering applications of the plain carbon steels as well as its limitations.
