ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I provide an analysis of the way in which the mosaic approach (Clark and Moss, 2001) can be used as an ethnographic methodology. I demonstrate how the approach is situated paradigmatically and its relationship to ethnographic research. It was developed as a way of collecting data with very young children, utilising a range of tools in order to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, particularly in their early childhood education and care settings. I have adapted the mosaic approach in order that it becomes an ethnographic methodology sitting within the interpretivist paradigm.
