ABSTRACT

Maintaining the coherence of the method requires a constant return to A. Freud, whose work constitutes the basis of psychoanalysis. The most eminent post-Freudians situate themselves, then, within the context of this complexity, thereby opening the way to new discoveries. As regards the method, everything begins with the famous model of standard or classical analysis, which is a purely theoretical model, for it cannot be found in practice. This model is a basic reference for any form of practice or “clinical thinking”, to use André Green’s expression. The evolution of the definition of the fundamentals of the method led to certain clarifications at the same time as psychoanalysis was evolving towards complexity. This is what gives rise to a paradox, said to be organising by certain contemporary epistemologists. The renewed debates on the subject of psychoanalysis/psychoanalytic psychotherapy are part of this dynamic.
