Rivalry in Sino-Japanese relations

This introductory chapter introduces the topic of interstate rivalries in the Sino-Japanese context. It makes note of the fact that there is very little engagement between the literature on East Asian international relations and foreign policy and the literature on interstate rivalries. Then, the chapter reviews the literature on interstate rivalries. The chapter finishes with a brief description of the chapters to follow.
