ABSTRACT

This edited book is a multidisciplinary investigation into the use and propagation of health practices that are not based on scientific evidence. These practices are often harmful yet tend to be widely accepted by many on the basis of medical misinformation. The introductory chapter outlines the rationale and genesis of the book and explains our recognition of the need to move beyond criminology and embark on a multidisciplinary journey. The introduction also discusses the need to problematise the definition and boundaries of non-science-based health practices as they are deeply shaped by socio-cultural contexts.
