ABSTRACT
This is a case report on Sumidagawa sewer trunk line 3rd project, the construction project expanding the middle of existing Sumidagawa sewer trunk line by non-open cut method in Japan. This expanded section required an outer diameter of 9.5m in order to receive the TBM which started from Senjusekiya pumping station. Sumidagawa sewer trunk line 3rd project contains works involving large-scaled ground freezing, removal of existing segments, excavation of frozen soil, assembly of expanded type segments and enforced thawing of frozen soil. We completed all of these works safely under operating conditions of high water and earth pressure at 40m below ground.
