ABSTRACT

The paper will examine the experiences in the TBM tunneling and give some recommendations for better interaction of compression, precision and tightness of a tunnel. In order to build safer tunnels, the right product has to be selected, which has a huge influence on tightness and durability. The current trend in tunneling moves towards thinner segments to reduce the total costs and to increase the TBM speed. To follow this trend, we need more knowledge to be able to take right decision regarding the specified gaps, offsets and position of the gaskets on the corners of the segment. The next generation of gaskets is already waiting and the influence of the mathematical analysis as the Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) will improve the selection of the right product.
